“Fun”-filled sports, “flavorful” cheers for you
On April 26, the district-wide Workers’ Fun Sports Meet, co-hosted by the Hongjiang District Federation of Trade Unions and the District Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio, Television, and Sports, was held at the Sports Center. A total of 51 teams, comprising more than 1,500 participants from across the district, took part in the event. Hunan Jiuri sent 25 athletes to compete on behalf of the company.
This competition features four events: Happy Big Feet, Dynamic Five Rings, Crazy Caterpillar, and Power to Move Mountains.
Led by union chairman Tang Xibo, everyone was in high spirits and brimming with enthusiasm. At the competition venue, applause, laughter, cheers, and shouts of encouragement rose and fell in waves, as the entire sports event was steeped in a joyful, relaxed, and uplifting atmosphere.
In the “Lifting Mountains and Rivers” tug-of-war competition, the Hunan Jiuri team advanced through five consecutive elimination rounds. In the sixth round—a round-robin for first, second, and third place—they faced the Hengguang Shares team and the Public Security Bureau team. As soon as our athletes stepped onto the field, the stark contrast in physique was immediately apparent: spectators off the mat shook their heads repeatedly, predicting we’d settle for third place at best. With production unaffected, most of our chosen athletes were second-tier players or managers, generally lean and slight in build. Meanwhile, our opponents were towering men over 180 cm tall, each weighing more than 200 jin, with arms that looked thicker than our female teammates’ legs. Our opening match against Hengguang Shares ended in defeat, as expected. Acknowledging our disadvantages, the Jiuri team summoned an indomitable spirit—refusing to yield or give up. In a grueling standoff against the elite police special‑ops squad, we gritted our teeth and held on, driven by the belief that perseverance would bring victory. Even when we were just inches away from collapse, we endured the toughest moments and ultimately staged a remarkable comeback, clinching second place.
In each event, the team members stood united, giving their all to achieve outstanding results. They competed with passion and flair, ultimately securing an impressive fourth-place finish as a team—fully embodying the spirit of unity, determination, and relentless striving that defines the Jiuri family.
