Jiuri New Materials has acquired Xuzhou Dajing New Materials Group, making a full-scale push into the photoresist and semiconductor materials sectors.
Published on: 2020/09/17 According to an announcement by Jiuri New Materials (688199.SH), the company plans to acquire 100% of the equity in Xuzhou Dajing New Materials Technology Group Co., Ltd., including its wholly owned subsidiary, Dajing Information Chemicals (Xuzhou) Co., Ltd. Jiuri New Materials is a listed company on the STAR Market of the Shanghai Stock Exchange. In recent years, while consolidating its leading position in the photoinitiator industry, it has been actively exploring expansion into the electronic chemicals sector. Reportedly, Jiuri New Materials has long invested in R&D of chemical materials related to photoresists. Previously, during an interaction session on the SSE’s e‑interactive platform, the company stated that its cationic photoinitiators have completed small‑scale and pilot‑scale trials, and its photoresist photosensitizers are currently undergoing small‑scale development. Photosensitizers are core raw materials for manufacturing display‑panel photoresists and semiconductor g‑ and i‑line photoresists, accounting for approximately 60% of production costs. At present, China lacks domestic manufacturers of microelectronics‑grade photosensitizers, relying instead on imports from Japan, South Korea, and other countries. The completion of this acquisition marks a substantial step forward in Jiuri New Materials’ strategic deployment within the photoresist and semiconductor materials sectors. It will help the company translate years of R&D achievements into marketable products, rapidly achieving industrialization and large‑scale production of photosensitizers. Leveraging its strengths in chemistry and chemical engineering, Jiuri New Materials will comprehensively advance the R&D and production of chemical materials required for photoresist and semiconductor industries, thereby making due contributions to China’s development in these fields. Upon investigation, Xuzhou Dajing New Materials Group was established in 2014. Its primary business includes information chemicals (photoresists, reagents, raw materials), coatings, and the R&D, promotion, production, and sales of chemical and biopharmaceutical products. Its wholly owned subsidiary, Dajing Information Chemicals, focuses on the production and sale of information chemicals (photosensitive materials, reagents, raw materials), coatings, and chemical and biopharmaceutical raw materials, along with related research and development activities. The former principal executives and key technical personnel of Xuzhou Dajing New Materials Group are Kang Wenbing and You Jiadong. Kang Wenbing graduated from Nagoya Institute of Technology in Japan, holding a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering, and currently serves as a professor and doctoral supervisor at the National Colloid Materials Engineering Technology Research Center of Shandong University. He spent over two decades working at Merck, one of the world’s three major photoresist manufacturers, where he held positions such as Head of R&D, Head of Quality Assurance, and Product Director. His extensive experience encompasses the development and production of photoresists used in integrated circuit manufacturing, anti‑reflective films, nonlinear optical materials (for laser wavelength conversion), organic light‑emitting materials and devices (OLEDs), color photoresists for liquid crystal displays, photoresists for thin‑film transistor (TFT) LCD panels, high‑purity chemicals, and coating‑type insulating dielectric films essential for memory device production (DRAM and NAND flash). Several of his research achievements are at the forefront globally. You Jiadong is a senior domestic expert in electronic chemicals and a distinguished engineer who has participated in major scientific and technological projects related to photoresists, including the 863 Program. He founded Suzhou Ruihong Electronic Chemicals Co., Ltd. and Suzhou Jingrui Chemical Co., Ltd. (300655.SZ), and led and oversaw the implementation of the national “02” major project focused on the industrialization of i‑line photoresists, becoming a prominent leader in China’s photoresist industry. The announcement indicates that following the acquisition, Kang Wenbing will continue to serve at Xuzhou Dajing New Materials Group, while You Jiadong has been appointed as a consultant to Jiuri New Materials. On August 20, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the People’s Republic of China, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, presided over a symposium on solidly advancing the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region and delivered an important speech. Xi emphasized that control over innovation and development must remain firmly in our own hands. The three provinces and one municipality should pool their scientific and technological resources, focusing on key areas and critical links such as integrated circuits, biomedicine, and artificial intelligence, striving to achieve breakthroughs at an early stage. Furthermore, they should support the innovative development of a number of small and medium-sized technology enterprises. This is not the first time that “integrated circuits” have captured public attention. Earlier this month, the State Council issued the “Several Policies for Promoting High‑Quality Development of the Integrated Circuit and Software Industries in the New Era,” explicitly stating that the integrated circuit and software industries are central to the information sector and serve as key drivers of the next wave of technological revolution and industrial transformation. With strong policy support from the state, the photoresist and semiconductor industries are poised to embrace new historic opportunities. Upon completion of this transaction, Jiuri New Materials will vigorously push forward the accelerated implementation of two major projects: the “Xuzhou Dajing New Materials Technology Group Co., Ltd.’s thousand‑ton‑scale photoresist and supporting reagent project” and the “Dajing Information Chemicals (Xuzhou) Co., Ltd.’s annual 600‑ton capacity project for producing specialized photosensitizers for microelectronic photoresists.” We look forward to Jiuri New Materials achieving full production capacity soon, breaking the long‑standing foreign monopoly on core photoresist raw materials, and contributing to accelerating the localization of China’s photoresist industry and realizing import substitution.
