The 5th UV LED Conference | Jiuri New Materials Joins Forces with the Industry Chain to Promote UVC LED Curing Technology

From August 27 to 29, 2025, the Fifth Ultraviolet LED Conference and the Changzhi LED Industry Development Symposium, themed “Winning Together Through Core Innovation, Pooling Strength for Development,” were successfully held in Changzhi, Shanxi Province. Dr. Zhang Qi, Senior Vice President and Director of the R&D Center at Jiuri New Materials, was invited to deliver a keynote address titled “It Is Now the Right Time for the Entire Industry Chain to Jointly Promote UVC LED Applications in Curing,” which drew significant attention from numerous light-source and equipment manufacturers and led to a consensus on establishing a dedicated task force to advance collaborative projects.

In the report, Dr. Zhang Qi systematically expounds, from four perspectives, the feasibility and urgency of jointly advancing UVC–UVA LED hybrid‑band curing across the entire industry chain:

  1. The rapid rise of the disinfection market has driven 270–280 nm UVC LED products toward greater maturity, with significant improvements in performance and lifespan and continued cost reductions.

  2. During the development of photoinitiators, a full-spectrum design compatible with mercury lamps was adopted; short-wavelength photoinitiators have reached technological maturity and offer excellent cost-effectiveness.

  3. Photoinitiator The absorbance in the UVC band is significantly higher than that in the UVA band, lowering the performance threshold for UVC LEDs and making commercialization more feasible.

  4. At present, practical applications of UVA–UVC LED hybrid‑band curing have emerged, and equipment manufacturers are actively promoting this technology. Accelerating its deployment will strongly facilitate the full replacement of mercury lamps with LEDs, thereby supporting the industry’s green transformation.

To further advance industrial-chain collaboration, on September 1, Dr. Zhao Guofeng, Chairman of Jiuri New Materials, led a delegation on a visit to a well-known domestic publicly listed company specializing in PCB and semiconductor direct-write lithography equipment. Xinqi Micro-Assembly Furthermore, in-depth discussions were held with the chairman, chief engineer, and project manager of Core‑Photonics Micro‑Fabrication on topics such as the advantages of laser direct imaging (LDI) technology, the characteristics of the equipment’s light source, and the technical requirements for photoinitiators. The two sides also explored the technology’s development prospects across a broader range of application areas and conducted feasibility assessments for specific collaborative projects. This face-to-face exchange between senior executives and technical experts deepened mutual technical understanding and further strengthened their ability to align with end‑customer needs.

Jiu Ri New Materials consistently underscores the importance of collaborative partnerships with light-source and equipment manufacturers. In photopolymerization systems, photoinitiators and light sources must be highly compatible: photoinitiators absorb light energy and convert it into free radicals or cations that initiate curing, serving as the linchpin for efficient crosslinking. However, within the industry chain, materials—such as photoinitiators—and equipment—such as light sources—reside at opposite ends, separated by formulation suppliers and equipment makers, often only converging at the end user stage, resulting in infrequent technical exchanges. This disconnect to some extent hinders coordinated R&D and rapid deployment. Accordingly, Jiu Ri New Materials actively fosters multi‑tiered collaborations with light-source and equipment companies, leveraging joint development and co‑research initiatives to align the functional performance of light sources and photoinitiators, expand the scope of photopolymerization applications, and drive the entire industry toward greater environmental sustainability, efficiency, and intelligence.

As a leading enterprise in China’s photoinitiator industry, Jiuri New Materials will remain committed to driving innovation in photocuring technology and expanding its application scenarios. By collaborating with stakeholders across the value chain—including material suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and research institutions—Jiuri will foster joint innovation and achieve mutually beneficial growth, thereby contributing to the healthy and sustainable development of the photocuring sector.
